Enablers, barriers, and insights from demonstration sites

BLUE CONNECT project relies on its 12 Demonstration Sites (DSs) to test and demonstrate a systematic approach to marine conservation planning and management. A crucial first step in this process is conducting a scoping and baseline analysis of the DSs, providing a clear picture of their biodiversity, human pressures, governance structures, and conservation challenges.

BLUE CONNECT Second General Assembly: Collaborating for Stronger Marine Protection

This week, the picturesque coastal town of Arendal in Norway welcomed over 45 participants for the Second General Assembly of the BLUE CONNECT project, hosted by SALT and NIVA. Taking place at the Visitor´s centre right across the Raet National Park, one of BLUE CONNECT’s 12 demonstration sites, the gathering brought together participants from across Europe and beyond for two days of lively discussions, collaboration, and hands-on exploration of the next phase of the project.

On May 13, during the European Cetacean Society conference in the Azores, ETC-UMA co-hosted with UHI Shetland, Universidade dos Açores, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, and HELCOM – Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission and brought together 45 passionate participants at the workshop “Blue Innovations: Communities and Tech for Cetacean Monitoring on a Budget”.
