Blue Connect and Nature Restoration

Blue Conenct was presented in Bredene, Belgium by VLIZ, UGENT-ARC and JDN in the frame of a Nature Restoration event on May 6th, 2025.

On Tuesday 6 May, a hundred stakeholders and interested parties from various sectors active in and around the North Sea came together in the Staf Versluys Centre in Bredene. The European Nature Restoration Regulation provides extra urgency.

By 2030, we want to restore twenty percent of our North Sea, in line with the Nature Restoration Act,” said Minister of Justice and the North Sea Annelies Verlinden during an introductory video message. “In addition, we are committed to better protection of the most ecologically valuable parts of our sea, including through new marine reserves and fishing-restrictive measures.”

During the presentation our team touched on the challenges from the project toward upscaling, the lessons learned from both ULTFARMS project and Blue Connect rearding offshore work and multi-use. Furthermore, they focused on innovative monitoring and the stakeholder work that has been done/ is envisaged and its importance.
